Talia Cohen, M.Sc.O.T. (She/Her)
Occupational Therapist
Talia is an occupational therapist registered with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO). She recently completed her Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy at the University of Toronto, after graduating from the University of Guelph with an Honours Bachelor of Arts in psychology. While in the process of obtaining her full certification, Talia is currently operating with a provisional license under the supervision of Alison Hendricks, OT Reg. (Ont.).
Talia is extremely passionate about mental health, sensory processing, child development, and occupational engagement. She first discovered the field of OT when she found herself as a pediatric client at 8 years old, sparking her ever-growing love for the profession. Despite a childhood of various therapies and a special interest in working with neurodivergent youth, Talia only began to realize she was autistic in her teen years and finally received a diagnosis at the age of 24. As a self-disclosed late-diagnosed autistic woman and member of the LGBTQ+ community, Talia is deeply committed to advocating for marginalized populations and promoting individual wellbeing through collective acceptance and inclusion. She strives to support her clients in advocating for themselves, achieving their goals, and living their most meaningful lives.
Her personal, academic, and professional experiences all play a critical role in curating her unique, neuro-affirming, client-centred, strengths-based narrative approach. Having completed student placements at Flourish Health Services, Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, and internationally at Lund University Hospital in Sweden, Talia is well-versed in a variety of practice contexts and therapeutic models. She excels in the areas of Dunn’s Model of Sensory Processing, Persistent Drive for Autonomy (otherwise known as Pathological Demand Avoidance), Polyvagal Theory, the BIMS Model of Autistic Experiences, and always bringing a creative artistic touch to her services. Talia is so excited to be running groups at Flourish where autistic girls are supported in finding the right conditions to allow themselves to flourish.
