We do not require referrals to access services, though conversations with family practitioners or pediatricians can be a wonderful resource when you have concerns about your child.
-
Previous assessments are not required in order to access therapy services.

There is a Green P paid parking lot on Hammersmith, just north of Queen Street. Metered street parking may also be available on Queen Street, though this is subject to time of day.

Parents/caregivers are more than welcome to remain in the clinic waiting area while their child is in session. Alternatively, if you need to step out for a period of time one of our team members will be happy to greet you when you return, we simply ask that caregivers return prior to the end of their child’s session.
-
We currently do not direct bill on behalf of clients. That being said, we make sure to provide families with all of the information their independent providers may require when making claims. This includes detailed quotes ahead of accessing services and detailed receipts after each session.

Fees and rates at Flourish are consistent with guidelines outlined by the Ontario Psychological Association and the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. Our services are not covered by OHIP; however, all clinicians at Flourish are registered Clinical Psychologists or registered Social Workers or supervised by a registered clinician, so most extended insurance plans will reimburse all or part of the fees. We provide a quote to submit to your private insurance companies prior to beginning service. The remaining, non-reimbursed fees may be claimed as a medical expense on your tax returns. Following each visit, you will receive a receipt outlining the services rendered.

Direct Instruction
-
Direct Instruction (DI) sessions are one-on-one and highly individualized. Our approach with every student is relationship-based; we value getting to know each child and their family well. In most cases students will have two, one hour sessions every week. There is no formal homework between sessions. Having a structured and consistent schedule is important, so each student comes at their reserved times every week. Direct Instruction is only offered in English, but we do offer some guidance to those families in French Immersion.
-
Families seek assistance through DI for a number of reasons. If your child is not reading at their grade level, you may want to learn more about Direct Instruction. Many students who receive Direct Instruction programming have a diagnosis of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), or a Learning Disability (LD). Some children are in French Immersion and not yet reading in English. Some students have been lost in the education system, unable to have their learning needs met. The reasons for attending Direct Instruction vary from child to child.
-
Direct Instruction is billed by session at a rate of $135/hour. This includes all materials, a bi-monthly virtual progress meeting, communication with your child’s teacher and the Academic Director as needed - and a whole lotta love!! We are open to communication with your child’s teacher at school and if needed, we can discuss attending school meetings with you.
-
DI is not traditional tutoring - we do not do school homework. While we don’t directly assist with school work, valuable executive functioning skills are inherent in the DI approach which supports overall school success.
Comparable academic remediation programs include Empower and the Orton Gillingham approach.
-
After we complete our intake call and determine that you are interested in moving forward with DI Sessions, we do two things: a) determine a weekly schedule, and b) arrange a Programming and Placement session for your child with one of our Directors.
This session is one-hour in length and is billed at the hourly rate of $135. In this session we spend time getting to know your child while also administering program-based placement tests*. After this session, one of the Directors will send you a summary outlining our suggested programming and next steps.
*These are not standardized assessments.

Regular communication with a child’s family plays a key role in how they progress. We formally schedule bi-monthly progress consultations, but connect regularly as things come up.
One of the first changes we often see is an increase in the child’s confidence. Kids want to come to their DI sessions and the ‘time flies’ when we are together. Over time, children begin to generalize the skills they are learning to both the home and school environments. Ultimately our goal is to see an overall improved report card; both the first page ‘Learning Skills’ and the grades in each subject area. The most important thing to remember is that each child will progress at their own pace.

We are a tight-knit teaching team with unique backgrounds and experiences that have led each of us to where we are today. We are equipped with the most up-to-date tools and strategies to best support your child to learn and grow into exactly who they want to be
